Mercyless is a French death metal band from Mulhouse in Haut-Rhin. The group was formed in 1987 by Max Otero, Stephane Viard, Gerald Guenzi and Boris Mandavy under the surname Merciless, before realizing that this name was already the property of a Swedish group; they then replace the i with a y and become Mercyless.
After a few albums, including Abject Offerings in 1992, Colored Funeral in 1993 and C.O.L.D. in 1996, the band broke up in 2000, then reformed in late January 2011. They released a new album, Unholy Black Splendor, in 2013, followed by Pathetic Divinity in 2016.
